THE POWER OF A WHITE SUIT

There's a freshness to white that invigorates not only your complexion, but your outlook as well.

A white suit is my new secret weapon. I would have never dreamt about wearing all white before my Swinging 6ixties fashion transformation. It's a positive power statement that says to the world you know what you're doing!

For inspiration think Bianca Jagger on her wedding day in 1971, when she donned an iconic white suit by Yves Saint-Laurent. Or the white pantsuit Kamala Harris wore during her acceptance speech in 2020.

There's a freshness to white that invigorates not only your complexion, but your outlook as well. However, you need to know what shade of white suits you the best. (See what I did there? "white suits".) For me, ecru or cream is best next to my face whereas pure white washes me out. For you, pure white might be ideal. Experiment to find your most flattering shade.

Odds are you won't have to go out and buy a "white suit", the pieces may already be in your closet — you just need to put them together. Sure, perhaps you'll need to shop for a white blazer or a separate top, but it's fun when a white outfit can be sourced from your own closet. Individually, a white shirt and white pants are just pieces, but when put together they can make a showcase outfit.

Styling a white suit is all about balancing the proportions. Too much billowing fabric can look like a sailboat. Baggy pants need a form-fitting top. Or, opt for a caftan-style top with skinny, white jeans for a completely different look.

A champagne sequin shirt brings sparkle and shine to an ensemble, and although it's not technically white, blanc de blanc (my favourite champagne cuvée) is close enough.

Have a meeting with your tax advisor? A lunch date where you want to impress? A potential new partner? Wear a white suit. WARNING — be prepared to turn heads!
